The International Degree Course in Biomimetics is a research-oriented, interdisciplinary course of study focusing on biological and engineering contents, culminating in the professionally qualifying Bachelor of Science degree. By employing a module system for the courses offered and the ECT-System, a relationship to the international education system is ensured.
Courses offered are divided into various areas of learning. While the first semester provides foundations of general sciences, mathematics and biology as well as selected aspects of engineering science, the in-depth study component has the purpose to specialise on certain areas. These areas of concentration include “Materials,” “Construction,” and “Locomotion (Motion Systems)”. Teaching takes advantage of state of the art biological and engineering science instruments and methods and takes place within ongoing research projects.
In addition to field-specific knowledge and methodology, the degree course offers opportunities to develop social skills (acquired in international and interdisciplinary study teams) and cognitive abilities (acquired through dealing with highly complex, multidimensional biological structures). Required academic content is also drawn from the areas of business management, communications technology, journalism and foreign languages.
